TRAVEL - NICARAGUA

Well, for the first time since I began going to Nicaragua in 2007, I went for vacation purposes. I must say it restored my hope in the country, because after spending time in the Managua city dump you start to think the country is kin to hell. Well, in a hilarious slew of events, I was called on a Thursday to go to Managua that Saturday and because I'm young, fun, dumb, wild, n, free, n, single, I said, "YES." Also it was just a two day trip - the whole thing was a bit mad. I'm using the word mad because I went with my British friend. I'd already been twice this year to film so what was two more days??? If you're not going to Managua for non-profit relief work here are a few things you can do:

Airport Hotel

1. Stay at the airport hotel

You have to understand my expectations were so low of this trip. However, we stayed at Globales Camino Real Hotel right by the airport and it was lovely. Great breakfast buffet in the morning and a nice big pool. If you're going to be stuck in Managua this was a nice place. Also it's close to the airport so no mistakes can be made. I think the tone of this is a bit jaded and I'm sorry.

2. Do this one thing In Managua

Set beside a profoundly contaminated lago is this lovely little replica village. It shows what Managua could've been like before earthquakes, mismanagement and corruption.  It also has small replicas of every cathedral in the country. At first I was a hater then I made up little plays with the people in the mini village and it inspired a whole new career path.

3. GO SEE THE ACTIVE VOLCANO

MASAYA! Just a 45 minute drive from Managua gets you to this smokeback mountain. We didn't see lava this day but rumor has it: you can. If you're a scientist than go away because you probably have the answer as to why it sounded like the ocean. But it sounded like the ocean and was relaxing but the air wasn't great to breathe, unlike ocean air, which is great to breathe.

4. Colonial GRANADA is fun day & Night

This was fun and touristy but who doesn't love seeing the results of a little Spanish takeover. This was another 20 minutes from Masaya. Lots to eat and drink here. It's also right on Lake Nicaragua which is an awesome lake and you can take boat tours and do that whole deal.

5. Watch the sunset with these people

Genius idea for a living room. Count me in. This was on Lake Nicaragua just on the back side of Granada. Also next to a little night club for those suave suave folks out there. I was ready to go down for my nap or I would've gotten down.
