Home Brewed: "Face In A Hole"
Before we get started, can we discuss how annoying the name "Face In A Hole" is? So literal.
My nephew turns three tomorrow. He's a psychotic animal lover. In his honor, his mom decided to throw an animal themed rager (which she has professed she will NEVER do again). She brought a petting zoo to their front yard, which is made of artificial grass #drought. For the party, I was looking into buying a face in a hole photo prop on etsy. I got annoyed with the kitchy-ness of it all and decided maybe I could build my own (assuming my friend Kevin would do everything).
Draw up the plans
I had dreams of hanging frames from trees but realized if 2-4 year olds were going to be involved these things needed to be sturdy. So Kevin and I made plans and set off for Home Depot.
Home Depot is your friend (or your local hardware store - may God bless them). We bought super cheap wood, had HD cut it all to size, bought some screws, paint, and a stain. This was fun for me, smiling, arm in arm with Kevin as he told me everything to buy because I'm not necessarily a help to the women's movement.
Choosing the Prints
I went online to get royalty free stock images - looking for pictures of animals that were facing straight on. These were the images I went with:
Where to print?
Love to Hate it, Hate to Love it: Costco
Costco sells 20 x 30 prints for $9.99. $9.99. Unless you know a guy, that's the cheapest I found for the quality and size. I mounted the prints on 20 x 30 foam board from Staples with an adhesive spray, and then cut out ovals with an exacto knife.
LOOK AT THE MESS WE MADE, but, for the kids.
After the structure is painted/stained and dry, use a sturdy velcro (I used command frame strips) to attach the poster to the back of the wood. Then, trick kids into taking photos.
